A Driftwood Boat

A couple of weeks ago my son & husband 

& I went on a little hike near the beach.

On the way back I spotted the most 

perfect piece of driftwood and a stick

 right next to it.

Who would have thought that both 

pieces would be lying there together.

Perhaps someone had the same idea 

as me then changed their mind and 

left the wood on the beach.

Well, I certainly picked it up!

I put together a little picture tutorial 

of how I made my driftwood boat.

I used a drill to make a hole through the driftwood

 big enough to fit the stick. 

I attached washer and screw to keep 

the stick secured to the wood.

I watered down the Martha Stewart paint

and rubbed it on the wood with a paper towel.

The color is Sea Glass.

My husband thought I should use a piece of 

linen for the sail but I was thinking 

something more colorful.

Since I didn't have any fabric on hand that 

suited the look I was after, I used a 

piece of scrapbooking paper.

I simply cut out a triangle to fit and hole 

punched the three corners. I was lucky 

enough to have a little nook in the 

top of the stick to attach the twine to. 

I attached the sail closer to the base 

with the twine and then I stuck a 

decorative push pin into the bow of the boat 

so I had something to tie the twine around.

Here's the end result.

And I guess I can always change out the 

paper or make a linen sail someday too!

These are old pieces of wood and a pallet we've 

had sitting outside for some time now, they 

make great backgrounds for pictures.
