Halloween Sign Post

What to do with the pile of scrap wood lying around? Every time there's an extra piece left over from some project (ie: finishing the basement) I instruct, yes instruct, my husband not to dare throw it our (ie: burn it in the wood stove).

I always say I'll need a piece of wood one of these days for something or another (ie: a project that gets pushed so far down my to do list that I vaguely even remember what it was I had in mind!)

But today is the day that pile get's a little lighter, well 2 pieces lighter - but at least it's a start!

I've thought about making a halloween sign post for a couple of years now. When I saw the perfect plastic sign at the Dollar Store for $1.25 I knew immediately how I would beef it up so that it wouldn't end up blown down the street or in a neighbours tree.

This is what I started with.
The halloween sign from the Dollar Store, a 2x4, a small square of plywood, and black spray paint.

I removed the plastic stick from the sign and adhered it to the plywood with liquid nails.

I put something heavy from the garage on top of it and left it overnight to make sure it stuck well.

Then I attached it to the post, my hubby put some thin strips of wood around the edge as a trim and I was good to go!

I added a little metallic gold craft paint & silver glitter craft paint in places and I hot glued my lovely fence post (gotta love the Martha Stewart fence post punch) to the top after I coated it with mod podge and sealent.
